Fancy 3d model after the jump.

Is this a display table? It seems like it would be crazy difficult to sit at it. On on side you couldn't get a chair to pull up close, and on the other you couldn't get your legs under it...

Coffee table, the most you would ever do is rest your feet on the sloped surface. It's 22" high.

Ahh, that makes more sense. Carry on then.

Would a drink spill over if you placed it on an edge of the cutout?

If we didn't put a nice smooth sheet of glass over the cutout, then yes it probably would.

Solidworks, right? Very nice, render looks great too. Is that out of SW as well?

Yep, renders done in SW. The client wanted some additional details... so, here is an update, now with 70% more tribal.

Sweet! I've been so out of touch with anyone who used SW for so long, I didn't realize it could do renders of this quality. Also, hadn't discovered this little nugget! (sketchfab) There's just too much stuff on the internet. Something I did over the weekend:

Cool tomahawk! To embed in your posts, go to the embed option in sketchfab, and copy/paste the iframe bit of code, typically, the stock width is too big so I modify the code before posting it.
After posting, it will show up as just the code, but when you go to edit it, everything should generate properly.

So, Joe - have you considered leaving the top overhang the underlying support structure, like maybe an inch? I'm totally thinking about the Chex Party Mix on the top, and sweeping it off to whatever side is convenient.. but the sides with no overhang don't work for that.

I think the biggest issue with doing that is losing real estate to put fancy graphic etc on top.

But if glass covers, is that still a problem? Ie: the base shrinks a bit, the top stays the same dimensions. Separating top from bottom at the top thickness bottom, the base shrinks 2" in either dimension and then comes in centered on the top again? No real estate lost to the top, the current design (assuming it's punching through the top to the bottom) isn't that close to the edges..
But what do I know. 3D is still in the realm of understandable magic in my experience.
